Imalilo Nutrition Educators is a dedicated team of young professionals who believe that good nutrition is a fundamental part of healthy living. Our team of 10 members, comprising 7 females and 3 males between the ages of 22 and 35, brings together a diverse range of expertise in food science, community development, and social work. Our team members hold Bachelor’s and Diploma-level qualifications in these fields from esteemed universities such as Sokoine University of Agriculture, Mzumbe University, and Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy.
At Imalilo Nutrition Educators, our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of communities by providing nutrition education to pregnant women, prenatal and postpartum mothers with children under six months and over six months, and other vulnerable groups.
We believe that better nutrition is closely linked to improved maternal and child health, stronger immune systems, safer pregnancy and childbirth, and a lower risk of non-communicable
diseases.
Since 2017, we have been working as nutrition volunteers in Temeke Municipal public and private hospitals, offering nutrition counseling, advice, and education to patients in need. We work closely with the Municipal Council of Temeke, under the guidance of the Director General and Medical Officer, Dr. Gwamaka, and the cooperation of Brother Charles, the nutritional municipal officer.
Our team is responsible for developing and implementing nutrition programs, assessing patients’ nutritional needs, and determining the best nutrition plan for each client. We confer with doctors and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and dietary needs, and we monitor our clients’ progress by visiting them in their homes every weekend. We act as a link between patients and doctors, and we also link special groups such as children and women to social welfare officers for additional support.
We believe that education is key to empowering communities to take charge of their own health
and wellbeing. To this end, we run a nutrition program on a WhatsApp group, correcting phone
numbers during clinic nutrition sessions. We also provide psychology counseling to patients to
address emotional conflicts and uncontrolled stress that may exacerbate illness
At Imalilo NutritionEducators, we are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of communities through nutrition education. We believe that our work has the power to transform
lives and create lasting change. We will continue to work closely with healthcare professionals,
local authorities, and community members to create a healthier, more vibrant future for all.
